Jee Fei Khor is an award winning harpist based in Sydney, Australia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She holds a Master in Music Studies (Performance) majoring in harp from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
In year 2009, she was awarded the 'The Best Graduate', an award given by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for her participation and contribution to the music scene. In April 2010, she was then awarded with another prestigious award, the 'Selangor Young Talent’s Award' for her solo performance in the solo music performance category. In perfecting her studies in music, she was also awarded a scholarship to join the Asian Youth Orchestra tour to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and China. During the same year, she received a sponsorship for 2 years to study under the world acclaimed harpist, Catherine Michel from France. She has appeared as a soloist, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra in Tanah Pusaka Concert in year 2005, featuring the Malaysian evergreen tune "Jauh Jauh".
Jee Fei Khor has a dream that in the near future she will develop a Harp World. In which this Harp World would be to introduce the harp instrument to more people, and acts as a center to share and spread this wonderful instrument.
The Harp Academy was founded in 2009 by Jee Fei Khor, a harpist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Sydney, Australia. The Harp Academy is dedicated to harp education; committed in developing an understanding of this enchanted instrument among the society. We hope by doing so, this will create a more supportive environment for harpist, which will then guide them towards international stages.
The Harp is one of the oldest instruments in the world. It is a plucked string instrument which is plucked with fingers. Harps come from variety of shapes and sizes and consist of three major parts: The soundboard, the neck and the strings. Usually there are 3 types of strings on the harp: Gut, Wire and Nylon.
At The Harp Academy, we offer a range of lessons from individual lessons to group lessons up to 4 students at once. We have students from as young as 6 years old, to as mature as 40 years old. And our grading system begins from 1 to 8.
The Harp Academy also participate in a wide range of events and performances.
